Eric Liddell's End to End Challenge 2012

Story

To cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats - the length of mainland Britain - is an ambition which many cyclists aspire to. To celebrate his 60th birthday, Eric Liddell is planning to return to his mother land, the land of “Chariots’ of Fire “ and cycle his chariot from Lands End to John O’Groats  to complete the End to End Challenge.

Eric’s gruelling 15 day challenge over 1800 km’s will traverse from the southern most tip of England travelling across Dartmoor, up into Wales , the Lake District , across the border into Scotland with the route taking in the Isle of Arran, Mull of Kintyre, Loch Ness and up through the Highlands to John O’Groats in the North of Scotland.

Eric will start his epic End to End Challenge on the 15th July 2012.

Eric loves his bike and finds freedom in cycling, however he knows not everyone has access to this same freedom. Eric is riding to raise money for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), an organisation that works to enhance the lives of people with cerebral palsy and enable their full participation in the community.

An Australian child is born with cerebral palsy every 15 hours and is  the most common physical disability in childhood.

Cerebral palsy is caused by an injury to the developing brain, which usually occurs before birth. It affects how an individual moves their body.

Cerebral Palsy is a lifelong condition, but its impact varies from person to person. It can be very mild - e.g. a weakness in one hand - or more severe, where a person has almost no voluntary movement.

In Australia, there are approximately 33,000 people with cerebral palsy. Worldwide, the incidence of cerebral palsy is 1 in 500 births. For most people with cerebral palsy, the cause is unknown and currently there is no known cure.

Eric has had a long association with the original Spastic Centre at Allambie through his work in assisting CPA redevelop the property. The culmination of that work will be in the opening of a new Centre at Allambie later this year. Eric’s daughter, Skye is also working at CPA as an Occupational Therapist and has a strong passion in working together with people with disabilities towards inclusive communities.

Please help show your support to Eric by sponsoring his epic ride to help raise money for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and help enhance the lives of people with cerebral palsy. All donation over $2 are tax deductable and all funds are directly attributed to Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
